Scouts is for young people aged 10½ to 14 and focuses on developing skills for life through adventure, teamwork and personal challenge. Across North Hambleton District, Scout Troops deliver a varied and engaging programme that helps young people grow in confidence, independence and responsibility, both indoors and outdoors.
Scouts take part in a wide range of activities including camping, hiking, navigation, cooking, outdoor and survival skills, creative challenges and community action. Through learning by doing, Scouts develop leadership, problem‑solving and resilience, while being encouraged to push themselves, support others and take an active role within their Troop.
Young people work towards a range of badges and awards that recognise effort, achievement and personal development, these opportunities encourage participation, commitment and progression at a pace that suits each individual.
Sessions are led by trained adult volunteers, often supported by Young Leaders, and are delivered in line with The Scouts’ safety, safeguarding and inclusion frameworks. Scouts are encouraged to have a voice and help shape their programme, building confidence and ownership. Where needed, reasonable adjustments are made to activities, equipment or delivery to ensure every Scout can access opportunities, take part fully and enjoy everything Scouting has to offer.
