Date: 29th Nov 2025 Author: Philip Roberts

North Hambleton District Scouts are continuing to strengthen their commitment to youth-shaped Scouting following attendance at North Yorkshire Scouts’ County Conference, Enable ’25, which brought together volunteers from across the county to explore how young people can be placed at the heart of decision-making within Scouting.

Members of the District Team attended the conference to reflect on current practice, share ideas, and consider how the district can further empower young people to influence their own Scouting experience, the event highlighted the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for young people to lead, share their views, and shape the future direction of Scouting at every level.

A key focus for North Hambleton District Scouts is ensuring that every young person feels listened to, valued and supported, by embedding youth voice across programmes, events and planning processes, the district aims to create an environment where young people are confident to express their ideas and take ownership of their Scouting journey.

Supporting Young Leaders and Explorer Scouts remains a major priority, particularly during the transition to adult volunteering at age 18, the district is working to strengthen pathways into adult roles, helping young adults aged 18-25 to move smoothly into leadership and support positions, this approach enables young adults to continue developing skills for life, gain valuable experience, and make a positive contribution to Scouting and their wider communities.

Building on the learning and inspiration from Enable ’25, North Hambleton District Scouts are pleased to confirm plans to launch their first District Youth Forum in 2026, the Youth Forum will provide a dedicated and inclusive space for young people from across the district to come together, share their perspectives, and help shape future priorities and activities. Feedback from the forum will play an important role in informing district-level planning and decision-making.

The energy, insight and commitment shown by young people across the district continue to drive this work forward. By working in partnership with young people and adult volunteers, North Hambleton District Scouts aim to build a strong, inclusive and forward-looking Scouting community.

Young people who would like to share ideas or get involved in youth-shaped opportunities are encouraged to contact the District Youth Team.
