Cub Scouts unite for World-Themed Adventure at CubJam

Cub Scouts from across North Yorkshire came together this weekend for CubJam a high‑energy county event that turned the outdoors into a world‑themed adventure playground.

Among the hundreds taking part were Cubs from the North Hambleton packs of Romanby, 1st Northallerton, 1st Masham, Hillside and Bedale, with rucksacks packed and excitement high, they arrived ready to get stuck in.

The site was set out in themed “zones”, each inspired by a different part of the world. As Cubs moved between activities, they picked up new skills, tried something unfamiliar and shared plenty of laughs along the way. Leaders said the buzz was clear from the moment the first groups arrived.

A Weekend of Trying, Doing, and Going for it

Across the weekend, Cubs took part in a wide mix of hands‑on activities that helped them build confidence, teamwork and independence.

Activities included fire‑lighting and outdoor cooking, where Cubs learned how to work safely and cook for themselves, cycling trails that tested balance and stamina, and archery sessions delivered by trained instructors.

There were also carefully supervised axe‑throwing activities focused on accuracy and self‑control, bottle‑rocket launches that sent handmade creations shooting skywards, and inflatable obstacle courses that proved a favourite for Cubs keen to burn off energy.

Adding a surprise twist to the programme, an interactive magician entertained the Cubs with energetic shows full of laughter, gasps and curiosity, the tricks were still being discussed long after the final reveal.

Making Friends and Building Confidence

Leaders from the North Hambleton packs praised CubJam for giving Cubs the chance to meet others from across the county, make new friends and try activities they might not experience anywhere else.

For many, the weekend marked a big step forward by pitching tents, working as a team and sticking with a challenge even when it felt tricky. It was a chance for Cubs to realise just what they can do when they give it a go.

Parents and volunteers played a key role throughout the event, helping activities run smoothly and encouraging Cubs every step of the way.

A Weekend to Remember

As tents were packed away and the final activity zones closed, the mood was one of pride, tired smiles and plenty of stories to take home.

For Cubs, CubJam has already become a standout memory of their year, for volunteers and leaders, it was a powerful reminder of what Scouting is all about fun, friendship, adventure and young people gaining skills for life!
