The District Lead for People ensures every volunteer in North Hambleton has a positive, supported and confidence‑building experience from the moment they join. You’ll oversee onboarding, training, role development and ongoing support, helping volunteers feel valued, equipped and ready to give young people skills for life.
This role is all about people, kindness and clarity making sure volunteers feel welcomed, encouraged and never left to figure things out alone.
As District Lead for People, you will:
– Oversee the full volunteer onboarding journey, from first enquiry to confident start
– Coordinate training pathways and ensure volunteers access the learning they need
– Support Group Lead Volunteers (GLVs) and Section Teams with role development and progression
– Help volunteers understand their roles, responsibilities and available support
– Maintain a clear, friendly district‑wide approach to welcome, induction and training
– Identify gaps in support and work with the District Leadership Team to address them
– Celebrate volunteer achievements and encourage a culture of appreciation
– Ensure processes are simple, accessible and aligned with Scouts’ values
You don’t need to do everything yourself, you’ll lead a small team and work closely with GLVs, Programme Leads and the District Lead Volunteer.
You don’t need HR experience. We’re looking for someone who:

– Can organise processes without making them feel bureaucratic
– Spots when someone needs help and offers it proactively
– Understands the realities of volunteering and leads with empathy
