Hillside Scouts Expedition Challenge Award June 26

Date: 11th Jun 2026 Author: Mark Turner

Over the weekend of 6th/7th June, the Scouts from Hillside Scout Group completed the exploration they had been planning as part of their Expedition Challenge Award

As part of the planning, the Scouts learnt about being inclusive and both visible and hidden disabilities. They used this knowledge to plan an expedition by train and bus to Scarborough. They navigated their way through changes in trains, slightly confusing bus timetables and made their way to 1st Scarborough Scout centre. The rest of the day was spent exploring Peasholm Park, sampling the local ice cream eating fish and chips, playing games and socialising at the scout centre.

Sunday was the return, both on foot and by bus, to Helmsley when they learned about some local history and then explored the woods around the castle.

The Scouts were a credit to the association whilst using public transport and showed some fantastic social skills. They all worked together fantastically, and it was a pleasure for the leaders to watch them all getting on and enjoying each other’s company.
