From Friday 13th March to Sunday 15th March, our Youth Lead Nikki and Deputy Youth Lead Philip travelled to Gilwell Park to take part in the UK Scouts Leads Support Weekend an inspiring and informative event that brought together Youth Leads from across the UK.
Over the course of the weekend, they engaged in a variety of interactive sessions exploring what it truly means to be a Youth Lead within The Scout Association, these sessions covered key areas such as developing strong leadership skills, understanding their responsibilities as Trustees, and learning how to effectively represent and empower young people in decision-making spaces. Through thoughtful discussions and collaborative activities, Nikki and Philip grew in confidence, expanded their knowledge, and strengthened their ability to make a meaningful and lasting impact within our District.
A real highlight of the weekend was the opportunity to connect with other Youth Leads from across the country. By sharing ideas, experiences, and ambitions, they gained fresh perspectives and discovered new ways to enhance youth involvement locally, they also spoke with members of the UK Youth Team, gaining valuable insight into how we can continue to develop youth-shaped Scouting and ensure that young people’s voices remain central to everything we do.
Nikki and Philip returned feeling inspired, motivated, and full of ideas for further embedding youth voice across our District, it was a fantastic weekend of learning, collaboration, and fun and they are already looking forward to reconnecting with those they met and putting their ideas into action.
