Mark Turner
District Lead Volunteer

Mark is the District Lead Volunteer for North Hambleton Scouts, providing clear leadership and direction to help Scouting grow and thrive across the district. He champions our volunteers, fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment where people feel valued, supported and confident in their roles. Through his approach, he encourages teamwork, initiative and commitment, helping volunteers build the confidence and motivation to succeed.

Working closely with Group Lead Volunteers, section teams and the wider District Team, Mark helps align priorities, share good practice and maintain open communication. He promotes strong standards in programme delivery and safeguarding, supporting volunteers to develop resilience, adaptability and patience so they feel well equipped to meet the needs of young people.

Mark’s focus is on ensuring every young person enjoys a safe, inclusive and inspiring Scouting experience. By encouraging curiosity, independence and empathy, he supports a programme that helps young people gain Skills for Life, grow in confidence and reach their full potential.

Katriina Makinen
Chair of the Trustee Board

Katriina is Chair of Trustees for North Hambleton Scouts, leading a supportive and committed Trustee Board that helps shape the future of Scouting across the District. She provides clear, values-driven leadership, making sure the charity is well governed, financially sustainable, and focused on delivering the priorities of the Scout Association’s strategy growing our reach, improving inclusion, and creating more opportunities for young people to gain Skills for Life.

Working with the Trustee Board, Katriina supports oversight of key areas including finance, risk, safety, property, and compliance. She encourages open, constructive conversations and shared decision-making, creating a positive and collaborative environment where trustees feel confident bringing their skills and perspectives to support the District.

Katriina works closely with the District Lead Volunteer to keep a strong link between governance and day-to-day delivery. By promoting curiosity, empathy, and a shared sense of purpose, she helps ensure volunteers feel supported and empowered so that Scouting in North Hambleton can thrive and more young people can benefit from everything we offer.

Karen Cheeseborough
Treasurer

Karen plays a vital role in supporting North Hambleton Scouts as our District Treasurer, working largely behind the scenes to help everything run smoothly. She ensures our finances are managed responsibly, transparently and in a way that enables us to deliver the best possible experience for young people.

In her role, Karen oversees the district’s accounts, maintains accurate financial records and provides regular updates to support informed decision-making by volunteers and trustees. She works closely with the District Lead Volunteer, the Trustee Board and the wider volunteer team to set budgets, monitor spending and make sure our resources are used effectively.

Karen also supports teams across the district by offering guidance on financial processes, helping with event budgeting and ensuring we follow Scouts’ financial procedures and principles of good governance. Her careful and methodical approach helps keep the district sustainable, compliant and well placed for the future.

With her calm, practical manner and strong sense of responsibility, Karen is a valued member of the district team and a trusted steward of our finances, helping to ensure we can continue to support more young people to gain Skills for Life.

Tina Bryson
Young Leader ESU Team Leader

Tina leads the District Young Leader Explorer Scout Unit (ESU), supporting young people as they take their first steps into leadership and volunteering within Scouting. She creates a positive and encouraging environment where Young Leaders feel valued, supported and confident to develop. Through her guidance, Tina helps young people build independence, initiative and motivation as they grow their leadership skills.

Working with section teams and district volunteers, Tina coordinates the Young Leader programme, ensuring participants receive the training, guidance and practical experience they need to succeed. She promotes curiosity, teamwork and adaptability, helping Young Leaders gain confidence as they support younger sections and contribute to delivering a high-quality programme.

Tina also works closely with the District Team to ensure the Young Leader ESU operates safely and in line with Scouts’ policies and good practice. Her patient and supportive approach helps young people develop resilience, empathy and a strong sense of responsibility as they grow into capable and committed volunteers.

Through her leadership, Tina helps create a strong pathway into adult volunteering, supporting North Hambleton Scouts to grow and thrive. By empowering young people to gain Skills for Life, she plays a key role in shaping confident leaders for the future.

Nikki DiClemente
Youth Lead

Nikki has been part of Scouts since the age of five and continues to make a positive impact as a dedicated volunteer. She currently serves as District Youth Lead, is part of the District Team, and volunteers as a Cub Leader in Bedale. With experience across every section, Nikki brings a well-rounded perspective and a strong commitment to championing youth voice, ensuring young people are heard, valued and involved in shaping their Scouting experience.

Her journey in Scouts spans Group, District, County and international levels, reflecting both her enthusiasm and dedication. Nikki has represented the UK at major international events, including the World Scout Jamboree 2023 and Roverway 2024, gaining valuable experience and bringing fresh ideas back to support Scouting locally.

Currently working towards her Wood Badge, Nikki is focused on her continued development as a leader. She is passionate about supporting both volunteers and young people, helping to create high-quality, adventurous and inclusive programmes so everyone can get the most out of their time in Scouts and develop Skills for Life.

Philip Roberts
Deputy Youth Lead

Philip has been involved in Scouting since the age of six, developing a strong and lasting commitment to its values and purpose. Along the way, he has taken on a range of volunteer roles at Group, District and County level, giving him a broad understanding of how Scouting works and grows across different contexts. This experience enables him to support both the strategic direction of Scouting and the practical delivery of programmes.

As District Deputy Youth Lead, Philip plays an important role in championing youth voice. He is passionate about ensuring young people are actively involved in decisions, shaping programme development and influencing the future of Scouting within the district. He also supports wider development work, working collaboratively with volunteers to enhance opportunities and experiences for young people.

Closer to home, Philip volunteers as a Team Member with Romanby Cubs, where he helps deliver safe, engaging and inclusive activities. In this role, he supports young people to build confidence, develop new skills and enjoy a wide range of adventurous experiences.

Through his involvement across a number of roles, Philip demonstrates a strong commitment to high-quality Scouting. He is equally dedicated to supporting fellow volunteers, sharing good practice and helping to build a culture of inclusivity, teamwork and continuous improvement across the district.

Danielle Cutler
Programme Team Lead

Danielle is the District Programme Team Lead for North Hambleton District Scouts, supporting volunteers across the district to deliver exciting, safe and youth-shaped programmes that help young people gain Skills for Life.

Working alongside section teams, Group Lead Volunteers and the wider District Team, Danielle helps ensure that Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers have access to a balanced programme packed with adventure, challenge and personal development. She is passionate about creating opportunities for young people to try new experiences, build confidence, make friends and achieve their potential through Scouting.

Danielle is committed to supporting and empowering volunteer leaders, encouraging the sharing of ideas and best practice across the district. Whether it’s helping to plan district events, promoting adventurous activities or supporting programme development, she is dedicated to ensuring that every young person in North Hambleton enjoys a fun, inclusive and inspiring Scouting journey.

Through her enthusiasm, leadership and commitment to the values of Scouts, Danielle plays a key role in helping North Hambleton District provide meaningful experiences that prepare young people with the skills, resilience and confidence they need for life.

Bex Bockett-Pugh
Inclusion, Wellbeing & Accessibility Lead

Bex is passionate about ensuring that Scouts is a place where everyone feels welcome, valued, and able to take part. With a strong commitment to inclusion, wellbeing, and accessibility, she is dedicated to helping create positive experiences for all young people and volunteers across the District.

As District Inclusion Lead, Bex works alongside Groups, Sections, and volunteers to support inclusive Scouting for everyone. She is particularly focused on promoting wellbeing, encouraging open conversations around mental health, and helping remove barriers that may prevent people from fully participating in Scouting.

Bex is a firm believer that diversity makes Scouts stronger and that every individual has something valuable to contribute. Through collaboration, support, and sharing best practice, she aims to help build a District where everyone feels they belong, can be themselves, and is empowered to reach their full potential.

Whether offering advice, signposting resources, or supporting leaders to make their programmes more accessible, Bex is always keen to help ensure Scouting remains inclusive, welcoming, and accessible for all.
