Explorers (ages 14–18)

Explorer Scouts is for young people aged 14 to 18 and supports the journey into adulthood through independence, responsibility and personal challenge. Across North Hambleton District, Explorer Units offer a flexible, youth‑shaped programme that reflects the interests, abilities and ambitions of the young people involved.

Explorers take part in a wide range of experiences, including adventurous activities, expeditions, camps, volunteering, leadership opportunities and international experiences. These activities encourage young people to challenge themselves, work as a team and develop confidence, resilience and decision‑making skills that will support them beyond Scouts.

Explorer Scouts can work towards nationally recognised awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the King’s Scout Award. These achievements recognise commitment, effort and personal development, while helping young people build skills and experience that are valuable for further education, employment and volunteering.

Explorer Units are supported by trained volunteer leaders who act as mentors, offering guidance while encouraging young people to take ownership of their programme. Sessions are delivered in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment. In line with Scouts UK inclusion policy, reasonable adjustments are identified and put in place where appropriate, ensuring that all young people can access opportunities, take part fully and achieve their potential.

Explorers provides the space to grow, lead and prepare for the next step, while continuing to enjoy adventure, friendship and skills for life.
